Our Story & Our Beliefs

Our Story…

On April 14, 1974,

a small group of interested people committed themselves to the organizing of an non-denominational church, later to be named Calvary Memorial. The first service had been held April 12, in the community room of the Grand Central Mall in Vienna, WV. From there we moved to the YMCA where we continued to conduct services until we located here at Wayside Farms in October of 1974.The old house on the hill was remodeled and served as our church home from October of 1974 through May of 1977. It was possible to seat 150 people in the Chapel, although at one time we had 356 in Sunday School. We had many great meetings in those primitive conditions and we will always remember those special days of our beginning. The new sanctuary was financed by people who were willing to lend us money, which enabled us to build. Construction on the present sanctuary commenced November 1, 1976, and we held our first service on June 5, 1977. Through the years there have been many difficulties and trials, but there have also been many victories and triumphs. There is one thing for certain, God’s hand has been upon this church from the beginning, and we look forward to what He has in store for the future.

We Believe…

The Bible… [2 Tim. 3:16-17] We believe that the Bible is the true inspired Word of God, and that it is our guide for faith and practice.

Salvation… [Eph. 2:1-10] We believe that all men and women are sinners and can only be justified through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as a free gift of God.

Jesus… [John 1:14-18 ; 1 Cor. 15:3-6 ; 2 Cor. 5:21] We believe in the full humanity and deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in his sinless life, in His atonement, in His resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.

God… [Matt. 28:19] We believe in the one triune God who exists in three persons… the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit… [1 Cor. 12:4-11 ; Gal. 5:16-23 ; Tit. 3:5] We believe in the Holy Spirit … who regenerates, sanctifies, guides, helps, and empowers through His gifts to all believers.

Baptism & Communion… [Matt. 28:19-20 ; 1 Cor. 11:23-26]We believe in water baptism and communion for all believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.

Resurrection & Eternity [Matt. 25:31-46]We believe in the resurrection of all men and women to a final judgment, eternal blessing for the righteous and eternal punishment for the wicked.
